Gingerbread House Part 1

Today I was able to help out in Emily's 1st grade class to make Gingerbread Houses and OH BOY is all I can say!! There was A LOT of eating, messy faces and clothing and some very creative houses! It took over an hour and baby wipes galore before we were done. I have a feeling this is just the first of many she will make this season!

Halloween Pics

This year Emily was a black cat and a cute one too! She and I went to my work Harvest Festival on the 29th and we both had a lot of fun! She went around to all the classrooms, joined in on the activities and had lots of candy and decorated a cookie. Meanwhile, I was talking to parents and working with kids. Fun times!

Emily also had fun on Halloween! Brayden (who has been sick all week)stayed with Jade to hand out candy, which lasted an entire 45 min. He ran out after seeing over 100 kids! Our neighborhood is INSANE on Halloween. A lot of the houses were decorated with special effects and fog machines. Emily and I ventured out for 2 hours and she had to unload her sack twice! The girl got some awesome candy! This year we found out that the neighborhood just West of us has really good candy and not crowded! Shhhh... our little secret!!

Busy Busy Brayden!

Brayden, now 18 months, is sure hard to keep up with. He loves to play in the playroom and his favorite activity is sitting in a bin full of toys and drawing. He also loves to vaccum and inspect the toy- I think he's taking after his dad! He is full of words "oh boy", "thank you", "uhoh", and "actu" ( this would be his version of Axel who is our favorite pug next door) are among his favorites. He FINALLY says mommy on a regular basis. I thought the day would NEVER come! They sure grow fast!

Emily's toothless grin

I feel like Oct. is escaping me and Halloween is just around the corner! I wanted to share with you a big moment for Em! She lost her first top tooth and 1 on the bottom within two days of eachother. The tooth fairy has sure been busy at our house! BTW- I forgot to do a post for this, but we got her ears pierced on her birthday! It was fun and she was so brave. What fun 1st grade has been thus far!

Emily's 1st Day of School

1st grade has finally arrived and the summer went by way too fast! The bus stop was crazy with a ton of parents and kids and cameras galore! Emily and her friends patiently waited for the bus with our favorite pooch Axel in tow, and off they went! I am very excited about this year and I think great things are in store for her. Emily has a male teacher which I think is fantastic and he seems really nice and very involved. Of course the social boys chose to sit next to her as we went and picked out her desk last night at "back to school night." I'll be intersted to hear how long it takes before she is moved across the room for too much talking! LOL. Can't believe my darling daughter is 6 and so grown up!

Emily's 6th Birthday!

We had a great time celebrating Emily's 6th Birthday this past weekend, that started off with a party at Build-A-Bear and then off to Carousels and More for some fun rides, cake, ice cream and gifts! Fun was had by all and the kids loved taking home their special bear.

On Sunday, her actual birthday, we went and got Emily's ears pierced in the morning- picture to come later, the camera is dead! Then in the afternoon we headed to Merwin Lake for some fun in the beautiful weather! The sand was Brayden's favorite and we could not get Emily out of the water. We then attempted to eat a picnic dinner but got swarmed by yellow jackets (at least 10 just around Brayden) so we packed up and finished at home. We had a great time getting out as a family! Here are a few pictures to highlight this special weekend.

That Darn Cat!!

We have the most lovable, tolerant and good natured Siamese cat that I've ever known. I grew up with Siamese cats all of my life and now we own two. Taz is so good with the kids and on this particular day Emily decided to play dress up with him and give him milk. He just sat there for the longest time and let her "play" with him. Too funny!

Trip to the Living Planet Aquarium

While we were in Utah, we met up with some of our family to see the Aquarium nearby. It was a blast and I couldn't believe how much the kids got out of it. Brayden had fun in his stroller and loved seeing "Nemo." The kids got to pet the Sting Rays but Emily was hesitant. I think they scared her! What a good way to spend a VERY hot afternoon!

Trip to Utah/Wyoming

I'm a little late posting from our trip. Life has been hectic upon returning to say the least. We had a wonderful 10 days away that started off with Holli's wedding and ended with a long visit at my parent's house. I saw some friends that I had not seen in over 10 years and it was fun to catch up. We also got together with our family and Jade's and all the cousins had a blast playing together. Her favorite part was the pool Grandpa got for the kids to play in. The weather was hot and the kids had fun running back and forth between the hot tub and the pool. Ethan, Seth and Emily wore themselves out each time they played together. We also celebrated Ethan's 8th birthday while we were there. Emily loved seeing family and did not want to leave. Although, when we landed in Portland she said " mom it sure feels good to be home." I think she missed her toys and of course all her friends in the neighborhood. Here are some highlights from the trip.

Trip to Seaside Oregon

This past week we went on a trip to the beach with my parents. We stayed the Resort At Seaside in a 3 bedroom penthouse. What a view! We feel blessed to have spent this special time there and are ever so thankful that my parents have the timeshare there. BTW- taking a 15 month old on a vacation is A LOT of work! The weather was spotty at best but we made the best of it! We hurried to the beach the minute the sun came out and some of our better days were in the evenings! Here are a few pics from the trip.

Fruits/Veggies of Our Labor

This past weekend we spent a lot of painstaking hours on our yard getting it ready for the summer. We have a lot going on and we wanted to take advantage of the cooler weather to put bark mulch down in our beds and tend to the backyard and garden. We picked our first bunch of Sugar Snap Peas and man were they delish! Our zuchini and cucumber are flowering with tiny beginnings of veggies. I can't wait for my peppers and tomatoes. Dill anyone? It by far is the biggest, fastest growing herb that I've ever seen! My basil is making a mad come back and we've used the chives on yummy baked potatoes! Jade has been busy planting 3 new bushes and I've been hard at work adding color to the yard! This is the first year we've really spruced up the yard. Hope it lasts!

Girls Weekend in Snohomish, WA.

A lot has been going on in your family and a much needed mother/daughter trip was in order! My aunt Karen, my dad's sister, was celebrating her 70th birthday and we were invited to join in on the fun! Karen is a visual artist and owner of a yoga studio in Snohomish. Her and her partner Warner Blake, renovated a church and rectory into a beautiful home and studio for their work. They have a beautiful garden out front with many sculptures and artsy decor. Emily loved to roam around the garden during our stay. The festivities began with a dinner for about 35 close friends and family, a concert by a friend who plays the electric cello, and then party including 14 individual cakes with 5 candles in each. Emily loved every minute of it. It was a BYOB kind of thing and I don't know if I've ever seen SO many bottles of wine in one place before. It was sure fun taste testing! There were over 100 people there and it was a blast. The best part of it was, I got to see my parents. We surprised Emily as she didn't know she was going to see them, and it was fun to see her reaction. There were other kids there including her cute cousin Mateo, so she was in her glory and did not want to leave! It was a quick weekend but so good to reconnect with family!

Yes, I admit I am obsessed with the "Twilight Saga." Not sure if anyone is as obsessed as I am! I check out on daily basis to catch up on on the latest. They are almost done filming "New Moon" in Vancouver B.C., and will soon head to Italy to film the last few scenes with the Volturi. I am WAY more excited for "New Moon" to come out than I ever was for "Twilight." The actors look beautiful, buff, and easy on the eyes!! They will start shooting "Eclipse" towards the end of August. Yes, my obsession is pathetic but what can I say? I loved the series and want to read it again sometime before November. To highten my vampire obsession I'm almost done with the 4th book of the vampire series by Anne Rice. I love both for different reasons. Plus Jade already had all of them so I can read at my leasure. I've added a ticker on my side bar to keep track! I guess when you hit 35, like I did, you revert back to some of your early 20's behaviors which by the way, include going out and partying like I'm 25 not 35. I paid for it, rest assured. If anyone wants to go see "New Moon" with me in November I'd love the company!!

Warmer weather and some slip-n-slide fun!!

80+ degrees means time to bust out the water toys! Emily got a slip-n-slide yesterday and had to try it out while Brayden patiently waited in his high chair. Emily even caught "some air!"

Today we all went out and Brayden had a blast exploring the water, getting splashed by his sister and enjoying the soggy grass! It was fun to see him doing some water play! Summer is almost here!
